What a swing check valve does
A swing check valve is a self-acting non-return valve. Forward flow lifts a hinged disc off its seat; when flow stops or tries to reverse, gravity and the back-pressure swing the disc shut. Because the bore is unobstructed when the disc is open, a swing check gives a low pressure drop, which is why it is the default non-return valve on pump discharges, headers and long transfer lines.
Jayant Valves casts the body and cover in its own foundry and machines them in-house at Chhatral, Gujarat. Body passages are designed to avoid stress concentration, and the passageway can be supplied full-opening where the process needs it.

Body and cover joint
The body-to-cover joint changes with pressure class. Class 150 to 600 valves use a male-female joint with a graphite or spiral-wound gasket; Class 900 and above use a ring-type joint. For pressure seal construction see the pressure seal swing check valve.

What design standard does the Jayant swing check valve follow?
Cast steel swing check valves are designed and manufactured to BS 1868, with flange dimensions to ASME B16.5 (and ASME B16.47 Series A/B or MSS SP-44 for larger bores), butt-weld ends to ASME B16.25 and face-to-face dimensions to ASME B16.10 / BS 2080.
How is each swing check valve tested?
Inspection and testing are carried out to API 598 and BS EN 12266 Parts 1 and 2. Ask for the test certificates you need for your project when you send the enquiry.
Can a swing check valve be installed vertically?
Yes, swing check valves can be installed in horizontal lines or in vertical lines with upward flow. Tell us the orientation at enquiry stage so the hinge and disc arrangement suit the installation.
What options are available to prevent slamming?
Jayant offers counterweight, hydraulic (dashpot) cylinder and by-pass arrangements on swing check valves for services where closing speed has to be controlled.
Do you supply swing check valves for sour service and boilers?
Yes. Valves can be supplied to NACE MR0175 / MR0103 for sour service, and IBR certified for steam and boiler applications in India.
